Our solution
Key features
1. Structural optimisation for heavy loads
- To achieve high load capacity per cell, the structure was designed with two shallow uprights (700 mm deep) spaced apart from one another.
- This configuration made it possible to increase the number of storage levels, distribute the load across a greater number of ground bearing points and reduce the cost of the foundation slab.
2. Slab support system and deflection control
- The slabs rest on support blocks fitted to the beams, engineered to provide stable bearing and allow handling by LGV forks.
- Sizing was carried out with reference to the maximum beam deflection, applying local bending compensation to keep deformation to a minimum and ensure safe storage.
3. Structure and construction components
- The basic module consists of pairs of cold-formed high-strength steel uprights connected by tubular bracing frames.
- The load levels are built from paired box-section profiles fitted with hook connectors that engage directly with the uprights.
- Each slab rests on five galvanised sheet-steel support blocks fixed to the beams.
4. Seismic design and regulatory integration
- The system was designed to advanced seismic safety criteria in line with UNI EN 16681:2016, assuming a 50-year design working life.
- The Modulblok five-hook connector system allows seismic energy to be dissipated without damaging the uprights, removing the need for vertical bracing and reducing the stresses transferred to the floor slab.
